Incident Description:
On October 29, 2019, 24TV.ua reported an explosion and fire at an oil extraction plant in Dnipro, Ukraine.
The State Emergency Service reported that the explosion occurred when the roof of a 400 square-meter workshop collapsed. Residents heard a loud clap and some reported that the windows in their homes shook. They also kept their windows closed due to an intense smell that pervaded the region.
A fire broke out immediately afterward. Ground grain burned in a 200 square-meter area while the warehouse was destroyed and the doors and windows were blown out of a nearby office building.
The State Emergency Service worked with seven local firefighting units to eliminate the flames. At 10:53 p.m. the fire was contained, and by 11:16 p.m., it was completely out.
The deputy head of the State Emergency Service in the Dnipropetrovsk Region said that there may have been an issue with dust or possibly gas, as propane cylinders were on site.
There were no injuries, but the police are conducting a criminal investigation into what may be safe rule violations.
