Incident Description:
On April 5, 2020, Mining.com reported an explosion at a coal mine in Cucunubá, Colombia.
Eleven people were killed and four were injured in the incident, which was described as “accidental.” According to Mining Technology, the explosion was due to the accumulation of gases in an area where 22 miners were working despite the health emergency declared by the Colombian government due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Cundinamarca governor joined the local fire department at the site. The National Mining Agency announced a halt to all underground coal mining operations in Cucunubá.
