Incident Description:
On April 22, 2021, KSLA reported an explosion at a pollutant control solutions provider in Coushatta, Louisiana.
Two people were injured when the explosion occurred. They were flown to a hospital in Shreveport for treatment.
Firefighters were on the scene for four hours.
According to KTBS, OSHA is investigating the incident, but no further details were available because it was an ongoing investigation. The Acting Red River Parish Fire Chief said that detailed information was unavailable due to a confidentiality agreement the previous fire chief had signed, which prohibited the fire district from talking about what goes on at the property.
On April 23, the company’s interim CEO reported that the incident involved one of the plant’s coal handling systems.
Research Update: On April 23, 2021, the Red River Parish Journal reported that the explosion appeared to have occurred in the conveyor belt system feeding into a silo at the facility.
