Incident Description:
On January 22, 2021, Komo News reported a fire at a potato dehydration plant in Warden, Washington.
The fire ignited in one of the dehydrators at around 5:30 p.m. Employees made it out safely but the flames rapidly engulfed the plant.
Fears that a 5,500-gallon ammonia tank might explode forced the evacuation of nearly a third of the town for several hours. Officials went door to door asking people to leave while firefighters asked for help from other departments. By 8 p.m., more than two dozen firefighting crews were at the scene.
The explosion fears subsided hours later and residents were being allowed back into their homes around 1:00 a.m.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
