Incident Description:
On March 14, 2022, Stuff.Co.NZ reported a fire at a pulp and paper mill in Tokoroa, New Zealand.
Ten fire crews and a helicopter spent almost four hours battling a large fire at a pulp and paper plant in Tokoroa on Sunday.
A Fire and Emergency spokesman said crews were called to the fire at 3:51 p.m. because wood waste, wood chips, and machinery were on fire. The fire was about 30m by 20m at that time, but by the end of the night had grown to 800m by 400m and 10m deep.
A total of 10 fire crews and a helicopter with a monsoon bucket responded to the scene across the evening. They left the scene about 8:00 p.m., and the local industrial brigade monitored the fire overnight.
The firefighters returned on Monday to mop up the fire scene and dampen it down.
No injuries were reported.
