Incident Description:
On October 24, 2023, Nip Impressions reported a fire at a packaging materials company in Whitby, Ontario.
The industrial fire, which was reported at approximately 8:20 a.m., began in a dryer within the plant. Initial response teams from Whitby Fire were swiftly on the scene. However, the situation escalated when the fire advanced through the plant’s exhaust system and reached the roof. This development prompted reinforcements from neighboring Oshawa and Ajax fire departments, who arrived with aerial ladder trucks to aid in the operation.
Thick smoke billowed from the site, yet the concerted efforts of the fire crews led to the fire being successfully extinguished within an hour and a half. The operation saw a total deployment of six fire engines and a contingent of 25 Whitby firefighters, with an additional four from both Oshawa and Ajax.
The incident, while severe, did not result in any casualties, and all personnel have been accounted for without injury. An assessment of the damage is currently underway, with estimates pending.
