Incident Description:
On March 20, 2019, Pembina Valley Online reported a fire at an oat-milling facility in Altona, Manitoba.
Seventeen firefighters from Altona and Rhineland responded to the incident at around 10:30 a.m. The Altona Fire Chief later stated that the fire occurred in a hammer mill after an obstruction prevented the product line from moving. The mill kept working until it overheated and caught fire.
He noted that employees shut off the equipment and isolated the fire to the hammer mill. Firefighters then put it out using hand extinguishers.
No injuries were reported.
