Incident Description:
On February 1, 2019, the Clacton Gazette reported a dust explosion and fire in Clacton-on-Sea in the UK.
Firefighters were called to a fire involving a boat and a shed at 8:54 p.m. on January 29. One witness reported that a big bag of powdered dye exploded, covering nearby homes, buildings, and even pets in a blue coating. The same witness said that the fire destroyed his son’s speedboat.
An Essex Fire Service spokesman said that eight large sacks of blue ink powder were involved in the fire. Although scientific advisors indicated that the substance was not dangerous, it would continue to smolder due to its composition. As a precaution, firefighters dug a trench around the affected area and filled it with sand.
A council spokesperson said that it was seeking advice about the dye ingredients to determine what further actions are required and how it can be removed safely from the site.
The cause of the fire was not known, but no injuries were reported.
