Incident Description:
On August 21, 2018, the Cowichan Valley Citizen reported a fire in a hog fuel pile at a waste management company in Chemainus, British Columbia. Neighbouring business owners reported seeing the flames from their nearby locations.
Firefighters responded to the call just before 11:00 p.m. and extinguished the flames that rose from the pile. The local fire department chief commented that the material “just composts itself. It’s so warm and dry.”
Firemen remained on site for around three hours to confirm that the fire was fully doused. No injuries were reported.
The news source stated that this was the second fire at the waste management site this week, but no additional details could be found.
