Incident Description:
On September 2, 2022, Radio 93 reported a silo explosion at an agricultural facility in Sorriso, Brazil.
When firefighters arrived, they found a tunnel structure under the silo and warehouse showing signs of explosion damage, with smoke everywhere and the masonry structures and metal parts being thrown on the ground. One worker was found deceased.
A visual assessment of the structure was carried out, to identify the risk of collapse. A multigas detector was used to verify the possible presence of gases, thus mitigating the risk of a new explosion.
An investigation confirmed that the building did not have the necessary permit for operation. The cause is still being investigated.
