Incident Description:
On November 7, 2018, KIRO7 reported a two-alarm fire at a grain storage facility in Kent, Washington.
When firefighters arrived, they encountered huge flames and thick clouds of black smoke, the latter of which could be seen from miles away. They later said that they had to take a defensive approach, as the fire was burning in three buildings and the age of these structures (one of which dated back to 1914) made it too dangerous to go inside. The roofs of the burning buildings later came down or partially collapsed.
The fire caused a local power line to go down and stopped train traffic until around 7:00 a.m. due to its proximity to the tracks. Crews remained on site for over eight hours after the fire started, looking for hot spots.
No injuries were reported. A property manager told the Kent Reporter that all employees were out of the building and accounted for. Fire officials said that the cause of the incident was under investigation.
