Incident Description:
On November 29, 2020, Reuters reported a fire in the main silo at the port in Tartus, Syria.
The fire, which was caused by an electric circuit, occurred overnight and burned for several hours. It causes major cracks in the silo structure but the 35,000 tons of stored wheat was undamaged. Workers were forced to transfer its entire contents to other locations across the country.
Five workers who were offloading a vessel carrying wheat were injured in the fire.
