Incident Description:
On August 1, 2023, Ouest France reported a fire at an agribusiness in Saint-Gildas-des-Bois, France.
A fire alert was issued shortly before 1:30 p.m. The fire was reported within a three-ton animal pellet dryer. Initial response teams were concerned about preventing the fire from spreading to a significantly larger dryer containing 13 tons of material.
The source of the fire remains undetermined. The operation engaged 32 firefighters and 13 vehicles. These responders conducted meticulous thermal and toxicity assessments and put in place monitoring mechanisms to avert any potential rekindling. Authorities from the Regional Directorate for the Environment, Planning, and Housing (DREAL) have initiated an inquiry to ascertain the cause behind the fire.
