Incident Description:
On July 4, 2023, France Bleu reported a fire at some agricultural silos at the Port of Metz in France.
The incident involved four silos, with three containing barley, sunflower, and wheat, while the fourth was empty. Over 100 firefighters and around 60 vehicles were dispatched to the scene to tackle the fire.
The rescue operation presented numerous challenges. The commander in charge of the rescue later mentioned that accessing the silos required ascending a 50-metre-high staircase and a footbridge. To aid their efforts, firefighters employed a drone to gain a comprehensive view of the situation.
The firefighters successfully stabilized the situation and eliminated the risk of explosion by around 8:00 p.m. The temperature inside the silos was significantly reduced from 280°C to 50°C. However, the complete extinguishing of the fire required continued efforts throughout the night.
No injuries were reported.
