Incident Description:
On August 11, 2021, Globo reported a fire in a corn storage silo in Luz, Brazil.
According to witnesses, the fire was caused by a short circuit in one of the equipment’s turbines. The fire was confined to the upper section of the corn-filled drying silo.
Firefighters reported that it was difficult to access the location and that the silo had to be emptied. In addition, due to the amount of smoke, respiratory protection equipment had to be used at various points along the equipment’s channels to combat the fire.
A water truck was on hand to assist the firefighters. Approximately 40,000 liters of water were used during the firefighting efforts, which lasted about 14 hours until the flames were completely extinguished.
No injuries were reported.
