Incident Description:
On April 2, 2021, News 1130 reported a fire in a grain silo at the Port of Vancouver, British Columbia.
Vancouver Fire Rescue Services was called to the scene at around 3:45 p.m. The engineers informed them that a dust explosion had taken place while two workers were clearing a grain silo.
According to CTV News, first responders found one employee with significant second-degree burns. He was taken to the hospital for treatment after receiving first aid from crews.
Investigators determined that an open hatch at the bottom of the silo caused the explosion. Firefighters closed it immediately and sealed off any sources of air to the silo before dumping three hose lines into it and spraying water inside for over three hours.
No other injuries were reported.
