According to its website, Andersons Hemlock Grain Elevator is part of an agricultural cooperative headquartered in Maumee, Ohio. It was founded in 1947 and owns more than 50 grain terminals in eleven states as well as Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Canada, with a total grain storage capacity of more than 190 million bushels.
Incident Description:
On December 19, 2022, ABC12 News reported a fire at a grain elevator in Hemlock, Michigan.
Firefighters were first called out to the elevator at 10:10 p.m. on December 18. Further 911 calls reported flames coming from the pump house. Twenty-nine different departments were still fighting the flames as of 9:00 a.m. the following day.
Hemlock Road between Gratiot Avenue and Doyle Road was closed due to the fire and massive flames. Some residents were evacuated from their homes for a couple of hours out of caution.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
