On November 5, 2019, Feed and Grain reported a grain elevator fire in La Porte County, Indiana.
According to the La Porte County Haz-Mat director, the fire ignited in canola grain stored in a building next to a silo. The grain, which was used as animal feed, generated a slight amount of smoke as it burned.
According to WSBT, the Canadian National Railroad kept trains from passing the elevator as a precaution during the firefighting efforts.
