Incident Description:
On November 6, 2019, KSCJ reported a grain bin fire at a farm in Le Mars, Iowa.
Firefighters arrived shortly after 11:00 a.m. in response to reports of smoke coming from the grain bin’s ventilation system. The bin, which holds approximately 15,000 bushels, was nearly full when the fire was noticed.
Fire crews cut a hole near the bottom of the bin to allow a water hose to enter and put the fire out. They also worked with the farmer to remove salvageable grain from the bin and load it onto grain trucks and wagons
The Le Mars Fire Chief believed that the fire started when a bin shaft became hot.
No injuries were reported.
