Incident Description:
On November 19, 2018, the Holland Sentinel reported a silo fire in Holland, Michigan.
The M-40 freeway was closed between Holland and Hamilton for over two hours as firefighters responded to the incident. The Michigan Department of Transportation sent out an alert of the closure.
On November 21, the Holland Sentinel reported that the fire, which was in a 65-foot-tall grain dryer, took a group effort from several fire departments to extinguish. The top 15 feet of the grain dryer was on fire, and fire crews were on the scene for about two-and-a-half hours.
The Hamilton fire chief said that the cause of the fire was unknown, but could be due to an equipment malfunction or dust build-up. He confirmed that the fire departments were working with the farming equipment engineers to determine a cause.
No injuries were reported.
