Incident Description:
On May 26, 2022, NBC 15 reported a fire at an agricultural cooperative in Evansville, Wisconsin.
Nearly 20 agencies responded to reports of flames tearing through a 100-foot grain silo. The Evansville Fire Department reported that firefighters saw smoke pouring from the building when they arrived shortly after 5:20 p.m. They quickly called for assistance from other departments, including a ladder truck from Brodhead because the dryer was so tall.
Trucks shuttled water to the scene because of a lack of fire hydrants in that part of Evansville. In addition to trucked-in water, firefighters used ladder trucks to rain down even more water on the grain dryer.
While firefighters worked to control the fire, emergency responders manually emptied the grain dryer. Employees hauled away the burned corn with skid loaders.
By 9:15 p.m., firefighters had concluded their efforts. There were no injuries, but the fire did approximately $800,000 in damage to the grain dryer and ruined about $50,000 worth of corn.
