John Ryan & Sons Farm is a private and family-run enterprise that does not have a website, so no information was available other than the fact that it is a 2,000-acre corn farm.
Incident Description:
On October 31, 2018, the Daily News, which covers news from Montcalm County and Ionia County, Michigan, reported a grain dryer fire at a corn farm in Crystal, Michigan. Two employees heard an alarm go off and saw that the farm’s drying silo had flames shooting out from its top. The farm owner’s son later said that the grain dryer was eight years old and never caught fire before.
Firefighters arrived soon after 11:50 a.m. and climbed onto another silo to spray water on the fire from above. They succeeded in containing it to the one structure.
No one was injured. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but is not believed to be suspicious.
