Company Description:
According to its website, Homeland Energy Solutions is an ethanol plant that buys corn to be converted to gasoline. Founded in 2005 and located in Lawlor, Iowa, the facility serves agricultural producers of corn from a multi-county area of Allamakee, Bremer, Butler, Cerro Gordo, Chickasaw, Clayton, Fayette, Floyd, Howard, Mitchell and Winneshiek counties. The plant can produce 100 million gal/yr of ethanol from 37 million bu of corn.
Incident Description:
On August 18, 2022, Powder & Bulk Solids reported an explosion and fire at an ethanol plant in Lawlor, Iowa.
Fire crews responded swiftly to the incident, which occurred at about 5:40 p.m. on August 14, and found a fire in a grain dryer. They were able to swiftly contain the flames.
No injuries were reported.
OSHA Inspections:
An establishment search turned up two OSHA inspections for Homeland Energy Solutions, but they were not flagged for combustible dust.
