Incident Description:
On September 1, 2020, WCSJ News reported a grain bin fire at a facility in Dwight, Illinois.
When the Dwight Fire Department arrived, they found a corn storage facility with flames visible on the inside. Employees had opened an access panel so that firefighters could quickly apply water to the flames.
According to the Deputy Fire Chief, the burning area was difficult to reach from the access point, so a ladder was deployed across the corn to prevent the firefighters from sinking into it. After using thermal imaging cameras to pinpoint hotspots, they extinguished the fire.
No injuries were reported and a damage estimate was not available.
