Incident Description:
On September 17, 2023, The Gazette reported a fire at a farm in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Firefighters from both Fairfax and Cedar Rapids were alerted shortly after 12:00 p.m. and dispatched to the farm. Upon their arrival, they found both a corn bin and barn fully engulfed in flames. Due to the extent of the fire on these two structures, firefighters assessed that they were beyond saving. Their immediate focus turned to containing the fire and shielding the surrounding buildings.
After ensuring the safety of nearby structures, the firefighters tackled the fire on the barn and silo from various angles, effectively bringing it under control in short order. However, both the corn bin and barn were completely destroyed.
The origin and cause of the fire are currently being investigated. No injuries were reported.
