Incident Description:
On June 21, 2022, Powder & Bulk Solids reported a fire at a horsecare feed mill in Dalton, Ohio.
Emergency personnel were dispatched after a fire broke out in several feed silos at the facility. Flames remained in the bins for over two days.
Several residents near the site were ordered to evacuate or shelter in place if fuel tanks exploded. These orders were lifted after the tanks were removed from the site.
Heat and fire were contained to one main bin and several surrounding bins. In consultation with other fire chiefs, engineers, and technical teams, it was determined that extinguishing the bins with water or getting crews close was too dangerous.
There were firefighters on scene over the weekend to allow the fire to burn out. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
No injuries were reported.
