Description
A dust explosion ignited a fire at a T.I.C. Gums warehouse at 4:20pm. There were no injuries or casualties. After employees reported the blast and fire, 50 firefighters responded to the one-story warehouse and fought the blaze for about an hour. A Harford County, Maryland Fire and EMS public information officer reported that the fire started at the bottom of the hopper and flames spread to two other pieces of equipment.
T.I.C. Gums develops food texturizers and stabilizers for food products including bakery products, confections, beverages, dairy products and sauces & dressings. T.I.C. Gums operates three facilities in Maryland, including an additional facility in Belcamp and the Texture Innovation Center in White Marsh. In addition to the explosion and fire at the Belcamp warehouse in June 2017, the same facility sustained a boiler fire that caused $10,000 in damages in October of 2017. These incidents occurred after the firm’s Brass Mill Operations Center, also in Belcamp, had an explosion in 2016 that caused an estimated $550,000 in damages.
