Incident Description:
On October 8, 2018, the Bury Free Press reported a smouldering fire at a malting facility in Stowmarket, UK. An operator in the building’s grain intake facility noticed that one of the screw conveyors was hotter than normal and thought he could smell smoke.
Ten fire engines arrived at the factory shortly after 7:30 a.m., but only three remained after it was learned that the fire was still at the smouldering stage. They doused a pile of smouldering grain dust and helped the company staff inspect the isolated screw conveyor. By 10.30am all fire crews had left the site and operations had returned to normal.
No injuries were reported.
