On May 17, 2019, SeaCoastOnline reported a fire at a gypsum plant in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Firefighters were notified of the fire by an alarm activation at 11:06 a.m. It was followed by a phone call from an employee who saw flames in the plant.
Arriving fire crews determined that it started in a conveyor belt that drives a motor for a drying kiln and spread inside the building. They extinguished it and remained on scene for a few hours afterward.
Employees on the scene reported that all of the plant machinery had been shut off two hours prior to the fire for maintenance.
No one was injured, but the conveyor belt, motor, and equipment in the immediate area were damaged.
