On November 2, 2023, The Ellsworth American reported a fire at a construction and excavation company in Hancock, Maine.
On November 1, the Hancock Fire Department, assisted by the Sullivan Fire, swiftly responded to and extinguished a fire at the plant. The fire originated from a conveyor belt during maintenance work. The ignition occurred when slag waste from the torches fell onto some rubber material, causing it to catch fire.
The fire was contained to that specific area, with the fire department using approximately 400 gallons of water to extinguish it. Following the incident, the plant resumed operations after a brief pause.
