Incident Description:
On March 10, 2020, the Index-Journal reported a silo fire at a wood pellet plant in Greenwood, South Carolina.
When firefighters arrived shortly after the fire ignited at 4:30 a.m., they found that the fire had temporarily shut down the plant’s assembly line. Because they were unfamiliar with the equipment at the plant, they worked with the company staff to get the fire under control.
Company officials helped the firefighters recognize when it was safe to spray water and how to cut off electricity in areas where they had to work.
No injuries were reported.
