Incident Description:
On August 15, 2018, CBCOnline reported a dust explosion at a cabinet-making business in Lake City, Iowa. Witnesses reported seeing a fireball shoot up an elevator shaft in the building, and when fire crews arrived, they concluded that the fire occurred when a dust collector in the basement overheated and ignited airborne sawdust.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames quickly but remained on the scene for close to four hours afterwards to monitor for flare-ups and hot spots. No injuries were reported and the extent of the property damage is unknown.
