On September 15, 2023, the Record Searchlight reported a fire in the wood shop at a high school in Yreka, California.
Multiple fire units, including eight engines from the Yreka Fire Department and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, rushed to the school around 9:30 a.m. in response to a fire in the wood shop. This prompted an immediate evacuation of the campus, adhering to safety protocols.
Within 30 minutes, the fire, which originated from an exterior filtration system, was under control. The damage was minimal, mainly confined to the wood shop’s dust collection system. Students and staff, having been evacuated to a secure outdoor area, were able to resume classes on the same day.
No injuries were reported.
