Incident Description:
On September 14, 2018, CTV Kitchener reported a structural fire at a woodworking shop in Wallenstein, Ontario, north of Linwood. Fire crews arrived at the property at around 10:00 a.m., after employees noticed smoke. They determined that the fire started in a dust collector after a spark ignited dust and other dry materials.
The fire chief for the Township of Wellesley said that there was an extensive network of pipes and ducts where the dust was collected, so after the fire was extinguished his crews used cameras to detect any hot spots. Finding the duct work to still be hot, he confirmed that they would investigate and eliminate the source to make sure that a fire didn’t start up again.
There were no injuries reported. The fire was contained to a small area and damage is said to be minimal.
