According to its website, Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC) is an aerospace manufacturing company headquartered in Taichung City, Taiwan. It was founded in 1969 and occupies a large suburban campus for its 3,000-plus employees. AIDC products include the “Brave Eagle” Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT) and the upgrading of Taiwan’s F-16 fighter jets in collaboration with Lockheed Martin.
Incident Description:
On December 29, 2021, the Taiwan News reported an explosion at a defense contractor in Taichung City, Taiwan.
The fire department was notified shortly after 10:00 a.m. A dust collector containing aluminum alloy had exploded and caught fire. Factory staff attempted to put the fire out while other workers were evacuated. By 10:26 a.m., the situation had been brought under control.
One worker was killed when a wall collapsed on him. Six others suffered burns to their face and hands and were transported to a nearby hospital.
As a result, Taichung City Government sent an inspector to the site, demanding that the company suspend its activities until the cause of the explosion was determined and the problem resolved.
