Incident Description:
On October 18, 2022, WFMJ reported an explosion and fire at an aerospace parts manufacturer in Niles, Ohio.
The incident occurred just after 8:00 a.m. According to the Weatherfield Fire Chief, the fire ignited as two contractors were removing the titanium dust from a unit at the facility. As the dust ignited, both contractors were burned, with one receiving facial burns. The two contractors were transported to two different hospital burn units and are listed in stable condition.
The Fire Chief said his department used 15,000 pounds of salt to attempt to put out the fire. The Lordstown Fire Department is equipped with F500 EA, an agent that helps to suffocate a fire, and supplied it to extinguish the flames.
