Incident Description:
On November 13, 2018, the Holland Sentinel reported a dust collector fire at an automotive parts manufacturer in Holland, Michigan.
When Park Township and Holland Township fire crews arrived, they found that the dust collector, which was on the outside of the building, was on fire. The plant was filled with smoke because flames had travelled inside via a pipe from the dust collector, but firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the fire. They remained on the scene for a while afterward, pulling filters out of the dust collector to confirm that the fire inside of the mechanism had been extinguished.
All employees in the building at the time were evacuated and no one was injured. The Holland Township fire chief said that the fire was likely caused by the dust collecting system filters becoming too full.
