According to the company website, Farmers Grain & Coal was formed in Mason City in March 1899. In 1988, it purchased Reiser Grain to acquire the Greenview location. Today, Farmers Grain & Coal is part of Encompass Grain & Rail Coop, which was formed in 2015 when the company merged with Taloma Farmers Grain Company.
With seven locations in Logan, Mason, and Tazewell Counties and more than 19 million bushels of storage capacity, Encompass Grain and Rail Coop is dedicated to meeting the needs of local farmers. It also provides corn to feeder markets in the South and exports grain to Mexico on the Union Pacific Railroad. Incident Description:
On September 12, 2018, the news site WAND reported a dryer fire at a grain elevator in Greenview, Illinois. The Greenview Fire Department stated that they were called to the site at 7:15 a.m. With assistance from Petersburg Rural Fire, Menard Rescue Squad and Menard EMS, they emptied corn from the dryer so that they could put out the fire. The department stated on its Facebook page that quick action by the fire crews prevented the dryer from suffering serious damage.
The scene was cleared at 9:00 a.m. No injuries were reported.
