Incident Description:
On June 29, 2021, Illinois Today reported a fire at a grain products manufacturer in Pekin, Illinois.
Firefighters were dispatched at around 7:30 am due to a fire in the corn dryer. It spread throughout the building, but they were able to get it under control immediately. Because the fire didn’t involve actual ethanol or other chemicals, water was used to put it out and crews stayed on site for an hour and a half to ensure that there were no flare-ups.
Week.com reported that due to the size and constant use of the dryers, fires like this happen “routinely.”
Workers were inside the part of the building where the fire occurred, but evacuated safely. No injuries were reported and there was no serious damage to the building.
