Incident Description:
On January 29, 2019, the Whyalla News reported a fire at a steelworks plant in Whyalla, Australia.
Metropolitan Fire Service crews extinguished the conveyor belt fire at around 10:30 a.m. Two trucks with eight firefighters used a high-pressure hose to put out the flames and applied thermal imaging software afterward to confirm that the fire was completely out.
No injuries were reported. According to the Metropolitan Fire Service, the total damage was minimal.

On April 23, 2018, The Advertiser reported a conveyor belt fire at Whyalla Steelworks. The Metropolitan Fire Service warned that the fire was causing smoke to drift across the city and warned people with respiratory issues to stay indoors with their doors and windows closed until the smoke had dispersed. No injuries were reported.
