Incident Description:
On June 20, 2020, Patrika reported a conveyor belt fire at a coal mine in Korba, Chhattisgarh, India.
The fire ignited suddenly and burned around 200 meters of the belt, one of three at the mine. Management brought the flames under control by spraying water and transferred the belt’s load to the other two conveyor belts at the mine. They allegedly tried to keep the incident quiet, but it soon became public knowledge.
The press was told that the affected belt did not undergo regular cleaning and maintenance, and that many of its rollers were broken.
No injuries were reported.
