Incident Description:
On August 9, 2022, the Financial Post reported a fire at a steel producer headquartered in Sault Sainte Marie, Ontario.
The incident, which occurred on August 7, took place on one of the company’s coal conveyors that supplies coal to two of its three coke batteries. According to Sault Online, Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services used an aerial truck to fight the fire.
Firefighters had to fill one truck with water from another and go as far away as 600 feet to find a water source. Initially the water pressure was only 60 pounds per square inch and said to be an issue but the firefighters dealt with the pressure going up and down, even as low as 45 P.S.I.
No one was injured. The company is continuing to assess the damage and complete repair plans.
