Incident Description:
On June 12, 2021, Xinhuanet reported that an explosion had occurred at a coal mine in Boyaca, Colombia.
The incident occurred on June 11 at around 1:30 p.m., while 12 miners were working. Three of them were rescued and taken to a nearby hospital- one with first-degree burns on his face and the others with signs of carbon monoxide poisoning. The other nine miners were killed.
According to the National Mines Agency (ANM), the incident could have been caused by an accumulation of methane and coal dust. An investigation is currently taking place.
