Incident Description:
On May 8, 2020, Fox 12 Oregon reported a fire at a jewelry-making business in Portland, Oregon.
The fire started in bark dust and spread to the business. When firefighters from Portland and Gresham arrived at around 4:00 p.m., they found the first floor engulfed in flames. Using tools, they removed bars from the windows and broke open the doors.
Once inside, fire crews were able to extinguish most of the flames within 20 minutes, and remained on scene for another 25 minutes to check for hot spots.
No injuries were reported. The street outside the building was temporarily closed but has since reopened.
Investigators told the media that the fire had been sparked accidentally and likely entered the premises through ventilation. They warned the public that as the weather got warmer and more dry, a fire risk went up.
