Incident Description:
On August 25, 2020, KTIV4 reported a grain elevator explosion in Royal, Iowa.
One resident later told news sources, “There was smoke coming from just about every place on the elevator. I don’t know if it was an after effect of the explosion or if something was on fire.”
The explosion occurred at around 3:30 p.m. in a part of the elevator that houses both corn and soybeans.
First responders went from door to door in the community to check on residents and provide water when needed. Power was shut down briefly but later restored.
A structural engineer is surveying the extent of the damage to the facility. No injuries were reported.
