Description of Silo Fire:
In the afternoon on Tuesday 13th March 2018, quintenews reported that smoke was seen coming from a large concrete silo at a beef farm at 228 Lake Road, Stirling-Rawdon, Ontario.
Along with the local fire services, the Belleville Fire Department arrived at the scene with an aerial truck to pour water on the top of the structure. Marmora, Lake and Centre Hastings fire brigades came as well offering tanker support. Despite this joined effort, the silo continued to smolder.
The next morning Stirling-Rawdon firefighters were still at the scene, observing the situation. Fire Chief Derrick Little said if the smoldering persists, dismantling the entire structure may be the only option to stop the fire. At the time of the incident, the silo was filled with corn. No one was injured and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
