Description of Metal Foundry Fire:
On April 12, 2018, Powder Bulk Solids reported a dust fire at a foundry in Sioux City, Iowa. The Sioux City Deputy Fire Marshal reported that the fire broke out after a spark in the machinery ignited material in a dust collector, forcing workers to be evacuated from the building.
When firefighters reached the scene at around 7:10 a.m., they found flames shooting from the dust collector, which was installed on a piece of equipment. The blaze was quickly extinguished but company officials said that the dust collector and the piece of equipment it is installed on will be inoperable for some time as repairs are performed. The foundry will be otherwise operational. No injuries were reported.
On November 16, 2017, Siouxland News reported that employees were evacuated at the Sioux City Foundry due to a fire in a piece of machinery. Firefighters took over three hours to find and contain the fire and no cause was reported.
