Incident Description:
On February 13, 2020, Powder & Bulk Solids reported a fire at a grain processing facility in Clinton, Iowa.
Employees smelled smoke near the receiving area and called the Clinton Fire Department for assistance. When firefighters arrived at around 3:00 a.m., they were able to quickly contain and extinguish the small fire.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Previous Incidents:
This facility experienced a dust explosion on January 5, 2019 covered in One Firefighter Killed and Another Injured By Grain Silo Dust Explosion. A 33-year-old Clinton firefighter died and another was injured while fighting a fire and explosion in a silo.
In a later report, OSHA determined that the company did not provide the fire department with an accurate assessment of the explosion risk and failed to provide correct information on the material in the silo. ADM was issued citations and a fine of $56,000.
