Incident Description:
On October 9, 2019, WSAV3 reported a flash fire at a warehouse in Garden City, Georgia.
When Savannah Fire Rescue, along with Garden City Fire and Chatham County EMS, arrived, they found two workers with burn injuries. One person was transported by helicopter to a burn center while EMS took the other to a local hospital.
Company officials said that both employees were transferring a dry powder substance called Voxtar-M40 into a container when the flash fire broke out. Voxtar-M40 has a high surface area volume ratio and can be ignited by a spark, causing an explosion.
After an investigation, firefighters concluded that all safety and handling standards were being followed.
