According to the website for Scottish Power, which owns the site, Longannet Power Station was the last coal-fired power station in Scotland before it was decommissioned in March 2016. It was capable of co-firing biomass, sludge, and natural gas.
Incident Description:
On June 7, 2019, World Coal reported a fire at a decommissioned power plant in Fife, Scotland, UK.
The coal storage bunker was being demolished in a series of controlled explosions when a fire broke out shortly before 3:00 p.m. Six fire engines and crew from Scottish Fire and Rescue tackled the flames, which involved felt located upon the roof of a building.
Officials from Scottish Power said that some remaining coal dust resulted in dark smoke being visible locally.
No injuries were reported.
